Moonchase and UCLL joined forces to configure Lab Online as a tool for training aspiring medical laboratory technologists. More than a hundred students have been using it in the past academic year! Press release below...
"At University Colleges Leuven-Limburg (UCLL), Lab Online has also been used by students of Biomedical Laboratory Technology (BLT) since the academic year '22-'23. After their training, these students mainly end up in biomedical and clinical laboratories where they will work daily with a laboratory information system (LIS). Prior knowledge of such an information system is therefore indispensable when a BLT student enters the work field.
Based on this future-oriented vision, UCLL has developed a tailor-made and accessible tool: Lab Online, in collaboration with Moonchase. Using this, the students have access to their own, fictitious patient database, from which an extensive medical history can be consulted. This teaches them better to clearly visualize the sample flow and to make better connections between parameters of different disciplines, which provides added value before they leave for their internship. In addition, students also use Lab Online during their practical lessons, such as microbiology, clinical chemistry and hematology. They build control charts from internal quality control samples that they have determined themselves. Then they enter the results obtained from the patient samples. In this way, the BLT student becomes familiar with actions within an LIS.
To date, more than 100 students have already started using Moonchase's Lab Online software on the UCLL campuses in Diepenbeek and Leuven. The software will also be further developed so that it can be used in the courses of anatomopathology and human genetics. Links will also be made between laboratory analysis devices and Lab Online, so that results will be sent directly to Lab Online. In this way, the program tries to simulate the working environment of a laboratory technologist even better. Through this collaborative project between Moonchase and UCLL, BLT students will be better prepared for the work field."

At the beginning of December, Moonchase and Topicus paid a working visit to Sint Maarten to further expand Lab Online at the lab of Fey van der Dijs (Health Care Laboratory St. Maarten; HCLS). The purpose of the working visit was to link several analyzers, to connect general practitioners and to professionalize invoicing. After an intensive week, all parties have become even more enthusiastic about the collaboration. HCLS has become acquainted with new possibilities of Lab Online, Moonchase and Topicus can again use the experience of the shop floor in the further development of the software package and services.
Origin of HCLS
Fey started setting up the lab on Sint Maarten in 2015. After two years of preparation, the lab was to officially start on September 5, 2017, but in the meantime everything had to be done to make the building and inventory hurricane proof. To no avail, a day later the lab was completely destroyed by hurricane Irma, forcing it to be rebuilt from scratch. Not an easy task on an island that had taken major damage everywhere. Everyone on Sint Maarten put their shoulders to the wheel for the recovery and after a difficult restart of the laboratory, sights were set on further development.
For ICT, Fey contacted Topicus to support the lab process together with Moonchase. Initially, many tests were carried out in other countries, but over the years more and more production has been brought to Sint Maarten.
From the start, Fey indicated that he did not want to work with a traditional LIS, but that he was looking for a combination between middleware and a web-based LIS. He has found this combination with Remisol and Lab Online (to which devices not supported by Remisol can also be linked directly). Meanwhile, a broad spectrum of testing is performed in the lab by a professional team of analysts.
Ambition
Fey has the ambition to take healthcare on Sint Maarten to a higher level, in which diagnostics is an important part. Based on his experience in the Netherlands and knowledge of healthcare, he talks to health insurers, general practitioners and the local hospital to join forces. With Topicus and Moonchase, he also brings in knowledge and experience in the healthcare and IT fields, which means that professionalization can go even faster.
In practice, this means that the collaboration of HCLS, Topicus and Moonchase can make an important contribution to the quality of healthcare on Sint Maarten as well as on the neighboring islands of Saba and Saint Eustatius.
Fey adds…
"Moonchase has proven itself in the field of Lab ICT and quickly develops the added value I am looking for. They understand the needs of a lab like no other and with their software they provide an indispensable link in the success of our lab. Moonchase Lab Online is a One-Stop web/cloud-based diagnostics solution that enables any lab to direct and manage its internal processes. It enables labs to streamline operations with custom workflows, configurable report formats, online invoicing, digital report delivery, and automated communications. This automated communication with doctors and patients can be done through multiple channels such as WhatsApp, SMS, email or mobile app. Referrals can also be sent in this way. In short, Moonchase Lab Online is a complete (Customer Relationship Management and Laboratory Information System; CRM-LIS) combination software that does not require complicated scripting or other concessions and does not require adjustments to the process design of the laboratory for achieving user-friendliness and meeting expectations of internal and external users."

Emmanuel Tambosco and Patrick Bolore, Information Systems Management:
"The "Institut Mutualiste Montsouris" has chosen to retain the Lab Online application among the various offers on the market of computerized physician order entry, and does not regret it.
In addition to the fact that the application is very complete in terms of the functionality it contains, its ergonomic and graphic screens make it very simple and user-friendly to use, both for prescribers and for the healthcare staff who collect samples.
The publisher, Moonchase, makes every effort so that the application is simple, fast and efficient to use by proposing favorites (lists of preselected exams) that prescribers only have to select to prescribe a whole list of exams. This is also the case with the "Care pathways" module, which allows creating all necessary prescriptions asynchronously just by selecting models, taking into account the pathology of the patient during his entire stay.
On the administration side of the application, again, it is easy to configure its many settings and allow optimal behavior within the organizational constraints of the establishment that uses it.
The application works without worry, including its support of incoming and / or outgoing flows towards satellite applications (HIS, LIS). If any concerns, evolution requests or functional questions arise, the editors mobilize and intervene very quickly ; which is very significant.
The application can also be used as a results server, but we already had one ...
The fact that the publisher is attentive and quickly reacts to all proposals for the development of the application is an undeniable asset which makes Lab Online a very good product among the software of computerized order entry."

Alain Mainar, Information System Director, CCML:
"The Centre Chirurgical Marie Lannelongue selected Moonchase Lab Online as the solution for transmission of laboratory prescriptions at the end of 2012. It was taken into production in April 2013. Multiple reasons contributed to this choice. First, the institution particularly valued the great professionalism and strong expertise of the spokesmen presenting the solution. From this first phase in the selection onward, the dialogue was rich, interactive and responsive. Moreover, the product, employing modern ("full web") technology, broadly meets the needs expressed by users, is flexible in its configuration, allows a tight integration with the rest of the information system and respects the logic for accessing the patient record and associated tools, from any workstation in the institution. Finally, the cost of the solution was lower than that of competitors."
"The implementation of the project allowed assessment of the qualities of the Moonchase team: professionalism, active listening and extreme reactivity in processing the requests of the institution (adaptations, evolution, integration in the information system, etc...) characterized the entire course of the implementation."
"The initial feedback on the use of the product confirmed the appropriateness of the choice: Lab Online is easily accessed from the computerized patient record, and its appropriation by the users is easily acquired, with accompaniment of few days on average."

Guy De Groote, Ph.D., laboratory director:
"Obviously, the Moonchase people were no strangers to us. Consequently, we considered the risk of awarding the project to this young company as a moderate one. The right decision, as it turns out. With Lab Online, Moonchase convincingly demonstrated to be able to deliver a user-friendly result server in a short time, with remarkable functionality for internal as well as external users. The integration with a laboratory system of another supplier presented no problems whatsoever and delivers excellent performance. Our customers now have fast access to a very complete overview of all their new and historical results, with elegant support for group practices."
