Moonchase and UCLL joined forces to configure Lab Online as a tool for training aspiring medical laboratory technologists. More than a hundred students have been using it in the past academic year! Press release below...
"At University Colleges Leuven-Limburg (UCLL), Lab Online has also been used by students of Biomedical Laboratory Technology (BLT) since the academic year '22-'23. After their training, these students mainly end up in biomedical and clinical laboratories where they will work daily with a laboratory information system (LIS). Prior knowledge of such an information system is therefore indispensable when a BLT student enters the work field.
Based on this future-oriented vision, UCLL has developed a tailor-made and accessible tool: Lab Online, in collaboration with Moonchase. Using this, the students have access to their own, fictitious patient database, from which an extensive medical history can be consulted. This teaches them better to clearly visualize the sample flow and to make better connections between parameters of different disciplines, which provides added value before they leave for their internship. In addition, students also use Lab Online during their practical lessons, such as microbiology, clinical chemistry and hematology. They build control charts from internal quality control samples that they have determined themselves. Then they enter the results obtained from the patient samples. In this way, the BLT student becomes familiar with actions within an LIS.
To date, more than 100 students have already started using Moonchase's Lab Online software on the UCLL campuses in Diepenbeek and Leuven. The software will also be further developed so that it can be used in the courses of anatomopathology and human genetics. Links will also be made between laboratory analysis devices and Lab Online, so that results will be sent directly to Lab Online. In this way, the program tries to simulate the working environment of a laboratory technologist even better. Through this collaborative project between Moonchase and UCLL, BLT students will be better prepared for the work field."

The right escape room for us: "The Lab"... Solved in record time.
International meeting between Moonchase and Dutch distributor Topicus in Breda, The Netherlands. Exchanging ideas and making decisions about product roadmap.
Lab Online 6.0 released with almost 90 new or enhanced features, including a revamped web user interface, live announcements, device-specific test data types, bulk synchronization of insurance information for Dutch customers, scriptable test order suggestion, scriptable task expansion based on intermediate results, mobile transfusion registration and more!
At the beginning of December, Moonchase and Topicus paid a working visit to Sint Maarten to further expand Lab Online at the lab of Fey van der Dijs (Health Care Laboratory St. Maarten; HCLS). The purpose of the working visit was to link several analyzers, to connect general practitioners and to professionalize invoicing. After an intensive week, all parties have become even more enthusiastic about the collaboration. HCLS has become acquainted with new possibilities of Lab Online, Moonchase and Topicus can again use the experience of the shop floor in the further development of the software package and services.
Origin of HCLS
Fey started setting up the lab on Sint Maarten in 2015. After two years of preparation, the lab was to officially start on September 5, 2017, but in the meantime everything had to be done to make the building and inventory hurricane proof. To no avail, a day later the lab was completely destroyed by hurricane Irma, forcing it to be rebuilt from scratch. Not an easy task on an island that had taken major damage everywhere. Everyone on Sint Maarten put their shoulders to the wheel for the recovery and after a difficult restart of the laboratory, sights were set on further development.
For ICT, Fey contacted Topicus to support the lab process together with Moonchase. Initially, many tests were carried out in other countries, but over the years more and more production has been brought to Sint Maarten.
From the start, Fey indicated that he did not want to work with a traditional LIS, but that he was looking for a combination between middleware and a web-based LIS. He has found this combination with Remisol and Lab Online (to which devices not supported by Remisol can also be linked directly). Meanwhile, a broad spectrum of testing is performed in the lab by a professional team of analysts.
Fey has the ambition to take healthcare on Sint Maarten to a higher level, in which diagnostics is an important part. Based on his experience in the Netherlands and knowledge of healthcare, he talks to health insurers, general practitioners and the local hospital to join forces. With Topicus and Moonchase, he also brings in knowledge and experience in the healthcare and IT fields, which means that professionalization can go even faster.
In practice, this means that the collaboration of HCLS, Topicus and Moonchase can make an important contribution to the quality of healthcare on Sint Maarten as well as on the neighboring islands of Saba and Saint Eustatius.
"Moonchase has proven itself in the field of Lab ICT and quickly develops the added value I am looking for. They understand the needs of a lab like no other and with their software they provide an indispensable link in the success of our lab. Moonchase Lab Online is a One-Stop web/cloud-based diagnostics solution that enables any lab to direct and manage its internal processes. It enables labs to streamline operations with custom workflows, configurable report formats, online invoicing, digital report delivery, and automated communications. This automated communication with doctors and patients can be done through multiple channels such as WhatsApp, SMS, email or mobile app. Referrals can also be sent in this way. In short, Moonchase Lab Online is a complete (Customer Relationship Management and Laboratory Information System; CRM-LIS) combination software that does not require complicated scripting or other concessions and does not require adjustments to the process design of the laboratory for achieving user-friendliness and meeting expectations of internal and external users."

Pharm. Biol. Geert Salembier, Director:
"After the cyber attack on 12/27/20 on our network, Moonchase quickly helped us set up a new Lab Online server. Thanks to this good cooperation, our doctors were again able to consult their results and place electronic orders. For the reporting of the COVID results to Sciensano, Moonchase made an extra effort so that we as a lab could fulfill our obligations to perform COVID PCR tests again as soon as possible in the fight against the coronavirus."
Lab Online 4.11 released with almost 90 new features, including support for the new generation of pre-barcoded sample containers, test result export to general practitioner packages, more powerful queries feeding the statistics dashboard, a single-source multi-platform mobile App and more!
"The Lab Online solution was deployed in our institution for internal consultation of biology data and, more recently, as a server providing the lab's PDF-reports to patients.
This is a powerful and customizable results server. Configuring the different user profiles should be mastered well to benefit from all of the functionality. Development requests are evaluated very quickly by Moonchase. Their reasonable prices enabled us to regularly adapt the functioning to our usage.
The strong points are the quality and the speed of responses provided by the software publisher."
Emmanuel Tambosco and Patrick Bolore, Information Systems Management:
In addition to the fact that the application is very complete in terms of the functionality it contains, its ergonomic and graphic screens make it very simple and user-friendly to use, both for prescribers and for the healthcare staff who collect samples.
The publisher, Moonchase, makes every effort so that the application is simple, fast and efficient to use by proposing favorites (lists of preselected exams) that prescribers only have to select to prescribe a whole list of exams. This is also the case with the "Care pathways" module, which allows creating all necessary prescriptions asynchronously just by selecting models, taking into account the pathology of the patient during his entire stay.
On the administration side of the application, again, it is easy to configure its many settings and allow optimal behavior within the organizational constraints of the establishment that uses it.
The application works without worry, including its support of incoming and / or outgoing flows towards satellite applications (HIS, LIS). If any concerns, evolution requests or functional questions arise, the editors mobilize and intervene very quickly ; which is very significant.
The application can also be used as a results server, but we already had one ...
The fact that the publisher is attentive and quickly reacts to all proposals for the development of the application is an undeniable asset which makes Lab Online a very good product among the software of computerized order entry."
Topicus, our partner and Lab Online distributor in The Netherlands, recently deployed the cloud-application “CoronIT” in the battle against the Corona virus. The goal of CoronIT is to quickly enable a broad national screening. CoronIT was developed in a few weeks and supports an appropriate Corona test process with a multidisciplinary group; it is the spider in the web. An important component in CoronIT is Lab Online, which processes the COVID-19 virus and antibody results from the LIS systems of several connected laboratories. Thanks to the flexibility of Lab Online, a rapid implementation has been realized and labs can be connected quickly. And we are proud of that.
Jean-Claude Praet, Managing director:
"IBC’LAB chooses the Moonchase Lab Online solution to offer its prescribers paperless electronic prescription and to improve the dissemination of its laboratory results.
From the outset we valued this product which, in our opinion, breaks with the traditional offering of laboratory analysis consultation and prescription software.
With easy and secure access for physicians but also for physician groups and nursing homes, Lab Online offers intuitive, fast and elegant support for all medical practices.
The advantages of electronic prescription: the creation of favorite prescription panels and the possibility of adding tests after consulting the results.
The very recent deployment yields positive feedback from user physicians who quickly familiarize themselves with the software (just a few days support).
Professionalism, responsiveness, efficiency and quality educational training have marked the entire implementation process.
Lab Online has also been improved and adapted to meet our quality requirements in pre-analysis and allow decentralized encoding in our sampling centers, thereby reducing the burden of pre-analytical errors.
To meet the needs and constraints of the daily practice of healthcare professionals, we have also chosen the Moonchase Lab Online mobile application and we are impatiently awaiting the iOS version promised for the end of March 2020."
Dutch diagnostic services organization Starlet Diagnostisch Centrum uses Lab Online since more than a year for keeping electronic patient files, and since a few months also for billing (calculating prices and feeding invoice information into the VIPLive product of our partner Topicus). Proudly sharing this!
Professor Peter Declercq, Clinical biologist:
"The order entry project of the Jessa hospital has been successful; full implementation of Lab Online is scheduled for April 2019. By then, more than 90% of hospital requests and more than 90% of specimen collections will be done with Lab Online. Jessa is the first Belgian Hospital to adopt pre-barcoded specimen containers, i.e. requests as well as collections are “paperless”. Lab Online has been significantly upgraded to accommodate the requirements of the Jessa Hospital. The Lab Online result viewer has improved reporting, also for microbiology results. Jessa had the following goals for the order entry project, all of which have been reached through Lab Online:
- to ensure the quality of the physician’s request
- to secure patient identification and specimen collection
- to ease the burden for physicians and nurses
- to improve the laboratory turnaround time
- to offer an effective result viewer"
Together with our Dutch partner Topicus, we are proud to announce that the Starlet diagnostic centre in Alkmaar, the Netherlands, has selected Lab Online for managing its electronic patient records. This is another illustration of the flexibility and growth potential of the product. We are looking forward to a successful project!

Sofie Arens, clinical biologist:
"KLD, member of the Sonic Healthcare Benelux group, has got Lab Online in production use since the end of 2016. Currently, already 30% of our orders arrive via the electronic ordering module. Communication with the developers runs smoothly and with a professional listening ear during treatment of our questions (configuration, modifications and extensions). For us, Lab Online is a success story, with time gain for physicians (profiles, sample barcoding) and the laboratory (automatic synchronization with the LIS), as well as a significant reduction of the pre-analytical error load concerning entry of patient and physician data and tests, all of which benefits patient safety."
Frederik Lenaerts, Service Support Manager at Cerba HealthCare Belgium:
"After successful commissioning of the Lab Online order entry module at the CRI medical laboratory in Ghent, we continue the momentum at the LBS medical laboratory in Brussels. In February 2016 we took a flying start after a successful pilot phase and by now, every week, numerous physicians switch to the paperless solution. Electronic requests from the physician's EMR via the Lab Online website using our patented sample bags: time savings for the physician, increased accuracy and all the necessary flexibility."
We are delighted to announce that laboratory Klinisch laboratorium DeClerck in Ardooie, Belgium, selected Lab Online for electronic order entry and for results reporting. We will be happy to take the opportunity to add yet another LIS system to the growing list of external systems successfully connected to our solution.
Dutch diagnostics company SHO rolls out Lab Online for order entry and results reporting. Lab Online is accessed directly from the care providers' own system and comes with a fully integrated laboratory guide. In addition, our sophisticated new sample registration module is available for staff in collection centers.
The CRI laboratory in Ghent (Belgium) is the first to take the combination of Lab Online order entry and results reporting into production. In the background, our solution maintains continuous bidirectional HL7 IHE communication with the MIPS GLIMS® system.
Matthieu Gogué, Process Manager Cerba European Lab (IT solution deployment mission for CRI and LBS):
"Lab Online order entry module: the launch of order entry on 08/28/2014 is the fulfillment of a work of partnership between Moonchase and the CRI laboratory. In this way we developed, together, a unique solution enabling physicians to save time, to be better informed and to secure the prescription as well as the transport to the laboratory. We have very positive feedback from the first physicians using this system. The flexibility and ease of use of Lab Online will attract even more physicians, this is for us an announced success."
With great joy, we inform you that the Algemeen Medisch Laboratorium in Antwerp also chose our solution. In their setup, Lab Online will be connected the CorLabs LIS-system of our partner Cegeka. Both the Order entry and the Results reporting feature are being deployed.
The management of AML puts it like this:
"The Algemeen Medisch Labo, member of the Sonic Healthcare Benelux group, has decide to take Moonchase's Lab Online system into production. The integration into the existing LIMS and the dynamics of the developers convinced us that this product faces a bright future. Both the existing modules and those still on the drawing board are conceived with full-blown communication and transparency in mind. In the complicated context of provider, laboratory, user and order placer, the entire system represents a beautiful solution for living up to the sector's requirements."
We are delighted to announce that Cegeka Healthcare, having assessed that Lab Online can provide added value to users of its CorLabs system, is partnering up with Moonchase for the distribution and first line support of Lab Online to its customers in the Benelux.
Together, we are looking forward to a long and fruitful collaboration!
Gabrielle Allemann, Fribourg Regional Service for Blood Transfusion:
"To improve our system for distributing results to our various partners (hospital and private), the proposed Moonchase Lab Online solution seemed ideal. The software fully meets our commitment to deliver our laboratory results with a "web" solution. We had the pleasure to work together with engineers from Inlog and Moonchase for installing the system to extract reliable and secure results, and so far we cannot but be satisfied about this new collaboration with such professional and competent partners."
Alain Mainar, Information System Director, CCML:
"The Centre Chirurgical Marie Lannelongue selected Moonchase Lab Online as the solution for transmission of laboratory prescriptions at the end of 2012. It was taken into production in April 2013. Multiple reasons contributed to this choice. First, the institution particularly valued the great professionalism and strong expertise of the spokesmen presenting the solution. From this first phase in the selection onward, the dialogue was rich, interactive and responsive. Moreover, the product, employing modern ("full web") technology, broadly meets the needs expressed by users, is flexible in its configuration, allows a tight integration with the rest of the information system and respects the logic for accessing the patient record and associated tools, from any workstation in the institution. Finally, the cost of the solution was lower than that of competitors."
"The implementation of the project allowed assessment of the qualities of the Moonchase team: professionalism, active listening and extreme reactivity in processing the requests of the institution (adaptations, evolution, integration in the information system, etc...) characterized the entire course of the implementation."
"The initial feedback on the use of the product confirmed the appropriateness of the choice: Lab Online is easily accessed from the computerized patient record, and its appropriation by the users is easily acquired, with accompaniment of few days on average."
The CERBA European Lab Group has chosen Moonchase Lab Online as a common solution for all affiliated labs in Belgium. Lab Online will be used for order entry as well as for results distribution. Physicians will also be capable of accessing its services from mobile devices.
Arlette Eeckelaert, Chief Medical Officer, CERBA Belgium:
"The Lab Online results server has been in use for years in three of our largest laboratories, much to the satisfaction of our customers and staff. Over time, the number of users has grown to several hundreds and is still increasing. At the occasion of the consolidation of all our labs to a common IT platform, we chose again for the Moonchase product als a general web-portal for physicians, now also including the remarkable integrated ordering module."
Pharmacist-Biologist Paul Robyns, Lab director:
"We find it refreshing to observe that Moonchase succeeds, with excellent new and user-friendly products, in providing welcome variation in the traditional offering of laboratory software. Despite the saturation of this market, Moonchase deserves the attention of all laboratories looking for innovative solutions, and appreciating direct consultation with its designers."

"Moonchase has produced an “add-on” product for Instrument Manager™ and IMConnect™ that provides laboratory staff with a web overview of all laboratory results, including images such as hematology scattergrams, from their offices or elsewhere using data contained within IM’s database. Together with functionality for entering new, multiple-sample work orders, Lab Online Instruments provides most of the LIS functionality required in a number of the markets where we are active, allowing Instrument Manager™ or IMConnect™ to function as a “mini-LIS.”"
We are delighted to announce that Moonchase has entered into a License, Maintenance and Support agreement with Inlog S.A.S., a member of the Haemonetics group. Inlog is widely known for its broad range of LIS products, and has chosen Lab Online to complement its portfolio with web-based prescription entry and results distribution.
Inlog obtained exclusive distribution rights of Lab Online Orders and Lab Online Results to hospitals in France and its overseas territories. For Moonchase, this agreement marks a boost of our international reach as well as significant growth opportunities.
The MRL laboratory in Bruges also put Lab Online to use. The solution was deployed on a remote server outside the laboratory offices, from which it provides multiple web sites including the one of MRL.
Pharmacist-Biologist Jean-Pierre Tavernier, head biologist:
"Since recently, the MRL laboratory offers an alternative and fast method to obtain test results, through the internet. With Moonchase Lab Online, our physicians can access all their lab reports at any time, old ones as well as new ones, displayed individually or time-aggregated by patient as required. The product keeps automatic track of which users viewed which results, enabling immediate highlighting of new or modified content. Physicians can also download or print reports as crisp PDF documents with the original MRL layout. A very reliable and fine solution!"
Lab Online Orders is the latest addition to our Lab Online suite. It is again a server-based solution, accessible both by web browsers and through a classical rich-client user interface. Lab Online Orders bundles clinical test ordering for one or more laboratories, organizes any required sampling and takes care of communication with the respective laboratory information systems. The product can be used independently as well as in combination with Lab Online Results.
Lab Online was recently put to use by Laboratorium Medische Analyse - CRI in Ghent, Zwijnaarde. The product was connected to the MIPSYS® laboratory information system and offers physicians immediate access to all their results, including history of up to 10 years back. After a period of evaluation, participated in by laboratory experts as well as a small number of selected physician-users, Lab Online was unanimously welcomed with enthusiasm.
Guy De Groote, Ph.D., laboratory director:
"Obviously, the Moonchase people were no strangers to us. Consequently, we considered the risk of awarding the project to this young company as a moderate one. The right decision, as it turns out. With Lab Online, Moonchase convincingly demonstrated to be able to deliver a user-friendly result server in a short time, with remarkable functionality for internal as well as external users. The integration with a laboratory system of another supplier presented no problems whatsoever and delivers excellent performance. Our customers now have fast access to a very complete overview of all their new and historical results, with elegant support for group practices."
